Why Silicone Hydrogel lenses are the lenses of the present and future

Posted by: 2020contacts on: January 28, 2010

Silicone hydrogel lenses transmit the most oxygen into the eye. It is a material that enables more oxygen to penetrate into the cornea, allowing for more comfort for lens wearers. The main concern of contact lenses is that it lessens the amount of oxygen into the eye; however with many new lenses in the market utilizing silicone, oxygen transmissibility rates (the amount of oxygen able to penetrate into the eye) has increased, therefore aiding in better health and comfort of the eyes.

Spotlight on specific silicone hydrogel lenses brands:

Acuvue Oasys with HYDRACLEAR

One of the most comfortable lenses in the market, Acuvue Oasys from Johnson& Johnson is ideal for those wearers who have long wearing hours who suffer from dry eyes.

The silicone hydrogel lens is accompanies with Hydraclear Plus, a material that will make your lenses moist enough so that you will not feel the lenses in your eyes at all.

Avaira

Avaira has a patented Aquaform technology that makes it a softer and more flexible lens than the average silicone hydrogel lens.

PureVision

Pure Vision is available for toric and non-toric patients, this monthly lens gives  convenience for those who do not want two week or one day disposable lenses.

The lenses have unique AerGel™ material, delivering exceptional vision, with  outstanding comfort and health.

Air Optix for Astigmatism

The newest Cibavision lens enables toric patients to feel a new level of comfort and clarity. The silicone hydrogel lens material is now available for toric patients to have the most oxygen enter the eye and has a breakthrough Precision 8|4™ design, which helps minimize the interaction between the lens and the lower lid for excellent comforti. The lenses also feature a patented surface treatment to help resist deposits, which can be a problem for some contact lens wearers, and are easy to handle.

Make sure for all silicone hydrogel lenses, you take care to clean them.  Protein deposits build up is a disadvantage to an otherwise comfortable lens so make sure to rub the lens when you clean them with solution.
